Hi all,

I have a problem with HP Pavilion lap top - model 15 n232sa. I just bought it recently and reinstalled windows 7 on it. A friend expert helped with the installation but he warned that I might have problems with BIOS as I am still missing a battery and use it only with a power adapter. That's why I often have to restart it from bios. Anyway, my problem is that my USB 3.0 ports are not working and the device manager says I am also missing drivers for PCI controller and SM BUS controller as well as USB controller and there is one unknown device. I have one USB port 2.0 which is working but the other two are not. Could anyone help with this issue? I downloaded the intel website i5 drivers but it wouldn't work. Could it also be a bios issue?

Thank you very much, help much appreciated.

Vladi

For HP laptops, you should only get drivers from HP support.
The US site (for US models only) is here: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html
The UK site (for UK models only) is here: http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/drivers.html
For other regions & countries, click the link at bottom-left of page.

When you get to the driver page for your laptop model install the "Chipset" driver first.
Then check DM to see what drivers are still required if any.

Hi Phillip,

thanks for your answer. I had already tried the drivers from the hp website. But there is no chipset nor usb drivers, when I enter my computer model, I only have option of downloading the following drivers:

NVIDIA Graphics Driver,
AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver
MediaTek(Ralink)802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN (WLAN) Adapter
Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Driver
Ralink 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN Adapter Driver
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 Series Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 Series Bluetooth 4.0+HS Driver
HP Notebook System BIOS Update
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)
HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software
HP System Event Utility
HP 3005pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator Driver
HP 3D DriveGuard Software
HP 3005pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator Driver
HP CoolSense Technology

and some cyberlink software.

I might have made a mistake in my first post - there are two USB ports on the left side which are not working and one on te right side which is working. I don't know if the ones that aren't working are USB 3.0 or 2.0 as I don't know the difference.

Thanks,

Vlad

maybe your usb on the side of your chassis is not connected in the MOBO or have a missing driver,if all else failed mentioned above. why dont you try driver pack solution you can download the software, it will automatically detect what driver is missing on your computer and choose what you want to install. hope this help.

Vlad, did you get your USB ports working?
I have an HP dv6-6c13cl, and the USB ports on the left side havent worked since...well, its only recently that I needed to use another USB port, so I assume they havent worked since the OS was reinstalled sometime last year. I assume these ports are the ones associated with the chipset, the right-side ports had no problem having their drivers updated.
As Vlad mentioned, on HP's site, there is no way to download the chipset drivers, nor the USB drivers themselves. All you get is what Vlad posted above.
***Update***
Double checking my query I found a thread on HPs site responding to this issue. It was HP staff that answered the post and not another user. Usually you get as far as the list shown above on your own. To get the chipset driver, you need to rely on HP replying to your post, and giving the proper link to AMDs page.

For my particular laptop, dv6-6c13cl, the AMD chipset driver [which includes the left-hand side USB port drivers], go here:

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows#

Hope that helps someone.

Hi all,

thanks for the suggestions and sorry for my late reply. I still haven't found a solution so I ordered a small USB hub and used it as a tool to used more usb devices at once. I will try to write to HP staff. Thanks
