AMD Phenom X4 with MSI K9N Diamond motherboard

A few months ago I bought a new Amd Phenom 9950 X4 Black Edition processor to upgrade my MSI K9N diamond motherboard. I finally got around to installing it last week and it won't work. I troubleshot it and do 't know what's wrong. Everything spins up when I start the PC but the bios will not boot. When I put the old CPU in everything works fine. I am starting to wonder if the 9950 is incompatible with my motherboard. Anyone know?

It is the 140 watt version. I updated the bios to the newest version.

It lists that you need the newest firmware and says not supported but I thought that meant not officially supported. When I google the mobo and cpu combo it seems like some people have tried it with success so I thought that was just not officially supported since it lists the newest firmware next to it.

I'd prefer to spend under $100 and make it useful as a backup computer
