The wires near my volume control on my headset were slowly becoming more and more troublesome. I started having to bend the wire in order to make it so that sound came out. Eventually the sound coming from my headset was very distorted. When I would watch Youtube videos the music would be loud and "roboty" and the voices would be very quiet. I tried researching this problem and eventually gave up on the headset. I started to unplug it from my computer and noticed that the sound returned to 90% of the original quality of sound when I had it barely plugged in.Is there a technical answer as to why a problem I was having near my volume changer would be affected by having the plug barely in?
Headset only works when partially plugged in.

There are several poles on the connector, they match to the wires in your headset. If one of those wires is bad, and you have it partially in, one of those connections is not contacting the computer, likely the bad wire is not. So the good connections sound great, but I am thinking that your sound is now mono, not stereo, meaning you have the same sounds in both ears instead of left/right.
