guys, i will be going to the US in 3months from now to pursue my higher education and i am planing to buy a laptop in the US. which is the best laptop available in the US right now or something that i can expect in 3 months of time in the US market.
My max budget is $500-$600 and my preferences are it should have an i5 or i7 processor, i play games sometimes so it should have a decent GPU and should also have a good webcam. Also since i am a student i will be taking lots of notes.

You're not gonna get that on your budget, at least not new.

Do you do a lot of CPU intensive things besides game? If not, you could get away with a laptop with an A10 processor. It'll play a lot of older games, and things like Dota 2, LoL, etc at decent settings. It'll also play a lot of newer games at low/med settings. Plus they can be had in your budget.

Since you won't be buying for a while, I can't find you the best deal. So, just browse newegg, tigerdirect, etc and look for a laptop with an a10 7300 CPU. It'll do for your needs and will be priced around what you can afford.

If that won't do, I suggest you build a desktop and buy a cheap used laptop for classes.

will a <$300 chromebook suffice my needs to edit documents, take down notes, use stuff like word, powerpoint, excel etc. Also i need something with a good webcam because i need to skype with my parents, relatives and friends back home almost everyday

The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-571-7776 is pretty good for school work and has a longer battery life than the Lenovo G50 from what I can see but not too sure about the Toshiba one.

However, if you are planning on gaming on that laptop then the Toshiba is out of the list because of it's 4 GB of RAM, that won't be enough for gaming. I would say that the real competition is between the Acer and Lenovo.

But overall, I would say get the ACER laptop, the CPU and GPU are BETTER than the LENOVO G50's.

The lenovo G50 also has another variant with an i5, 1TB hd and 8GB RAM.I guess GPU is same in both the versions. What do you say about that or are there any upcoming laptops within 3months under $650

Yes but the ACER laptop has an i7 core which more powerful than the G50's i5 variant. I suppose you can check this one out as well: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y40-80/#tab-customize

To make the best recommendation, I will need to know what you do besides taking notes and gaming as if you do anything that is cpu intensive, then an i7 is recommended but this will increase this price and you may need to sacrifice on gpu power which means that you won't be able to play games.

This brings me onto my second point, what kind of games do you play? Also is gaming a priority?

Currently i own a HP laptop in my home country which I am using right now which costed me around $650. It has a 4th gen i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB of hard disk space and an NVIDIA GEFORCE 2GB GPU and I am currently able to play games like COD ghosts, BF4, watch dogs etc in medium settings. I would like to play similar games but not much as I would be more busy with my studies. Apart from that , ill be taking notes, doing assignments and other college stuff like editing documents on word, excel, powerpoint etc. Other than that ill maybe using it for some basic photo editing, skype a lot, watching movies and videos and obviously lots of net browsing.

I personally would keep you current laptop home as it can play the games you want and get a basic laptop to take notes and surf the web. This way you can save up when a good deal comes and won't be disappointed with the one you have bouught. I would get something along the lines of a lenovo thinkpad series as they are reliable and have good battery life. Plus they are cheap for students as they give discounts.

well i thought of doing the same what you suggested but i need to leave my current laptop back here as my parents need it atleast to skype with me and other stuff. Also my laptop's warranty would be void if i take it to the US. So, i need to get a laptop there for sure which would suffice my needs.

So maybe buy the next model up from the one you currently have as it does everything.

My current laptop is too heavy bro, i feel like carrying a baby hippo around that's why i usually dont take my laptop out and it sucks when it comes to battery backup. In US , i need something light and portable with a good processor. Mediocre GPU will be fine i guess cuz i dont think i'll be playing games much over there but should have a good display for watching videos

You could try: http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_4900515&opt=&sel=PCNB

This should be enough for basic use. But it will not be able to handle game very well. On the plus side, you should be able to get good battery life.

Hopefully it is light enough.
