I have this Compal FL90 (Technically not mine, a customer for my workplace.) And I need to have win XP booted back onto it. I have a program that will only work correctly with win XP. It's very important that it stays this OS.

I tested the HDD with AIDA 64, no issues. The laptop recognizes the hard drive in the BIOS, but when I'm installing win XP it says no bootable devices are found.

Solution
If the HDD is the sata type hard drive, and the problem is the xp does not come with the sata controller ( ahci driver ) so the PC can't recognize the HDD.
You need to do
1) Download and unzip the ahci driver ( f6flpy-x86_11.2.0.1006.zip for 32-bit) (f6flpy-x64_11.2.0.1006.zip for 64-bit) to the USB drive. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/21854/AHCI-Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Driver-for-Intel-6-Series-Chipset-Based-Desktop-Boards Also read the " read me " from the same link I posted ( upper right-hand side corner) for how to install the driver "Pre-Installation Using the F6 Method"
2) Or watch he youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oDT40ewh90
3) After install the ahci driver, you should be able to install the xp...

Thank you so much! I'm a young technician, I have some experience with XP, but mostly software and not too much involving hardware. And yes it's a SATA. I thought it was odd.. I don't see very many SATAs with XP laptops. Once again, thank you so much! My customer will never know how you saved her computer. You are the silent hero of the internet this day.
