Hello everyone

I am finally going to upgrade my computer with a SSD Drive (Samsung EVO)

My motherboard only support sata II, so I plan to buy a sata 3 pci-e controller.

This is my motherboard http://www.asus.com/br/Motherboards/H61MA/specifications/

I would like to ask a question, does it make any sense to use a PCI-E controller with this motherboard?
The PCI-E slot runs at 2.0 standard x1 speed (my cpu doesnt allow me to reach 3.0)

This is the controller I'm intrested in so far http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-634735549-placa-pci-e-raid-sata-3-iii-6gbs-marvell-88se9128-ssd-_JM

Were I you I would save my money. There is little likelihood that a SATA 3 controller will make any appreciable or significant speed difference in the operation of your Samsung EVO SSD. The Samsung will perform admirably with your present system's configuration.
It might help a little...

SATA II = 3 Gbit/s
PCIe 2.0 x1 = 4Gbit/s
SATA III = 6 Gbit/s

You may not see the full potential of that SATA III SSD but it might help... some...
As you can see the SATA III standard is actually FASTER than a PCIe 2.0 x1 slot. So when you connect the drive it will be faster but you may not see the full speed.

Personally I was considering the same purchase until I found out that tid-bit. If you can find a SATA III controller that uses PCIe x4 then you will have enough bandwidth to see the SSD's full potential. Personally I just upgraded to an SSD and skipped the faster port issues. The reality of that is my drive on SATA II is still a huge difference in speed. My desktop loads windows in just a few seconds.

4Gbit/s amounts to 500 mb/s, isnt that about the speed of a 840/850 EVO?
The max speed I keep seeing online is about 550mb/s for this ssd model.

And by the way the controller I listed does have 4x capacity, my motherboard is the bottleneck, it has 2 pcie x1 slots and one x16 which is in use (graphics card)
