Which one is better at stock speed? I don't want to overclock my processor. I mainly want it for gaming. I've heard consoles use multi core, so considering that which one is better?
I don't update my system frequently so I want it to last long.

The cheapest price for the fx 8350 right now is at ncixus for $168.99. If no plans to overclock, the i5 4590 would be a better choice and is $186.99 at ncixus. That's only an $18 difference which is close enough to hardly be considered a difference. Ncixus just happens to have the best prices at the moment with free shipping (other lower prices at outletpc etc have shipping charges). If you live near a microcenter, the 4590 is only $159.99, about $10 cheaper than the fx. The 4690 lowest price is also at ncixus and is $209.99 at the moment.

You have to decide if the 200mhz difference speed is worth $25 between the two i5's. Between the locked 4690 and 8350 it's a $41 difference in price compared to the $18 difference of going with the...

when i was choosing between the 4690k and fx 8350, i went for amd fx 8350 because i wanted a gtx 970
If you have the budget, go for the i5 4690, if you are on budget go for fx 8350

Clocks do not matter as the i5 is faster than both stock and overclocked 8350. People keep complaining that Intel costs more but don't understand that the higher price has good reasons: better performance, better efficiency, lower temps.

i5 4690 speeds base/turbo are 3.5ghz/3.9ghz.
i5 4590 speeds base/turbo are 3.3ghz/3.7ghz.

For me I would recommend intel. An i5 is stronger than most Fx processors out there. Intel is good at single core performance. I would take the Amd if you wanted to overclock to 4ghz or more. If you did that would match the i5. The i5 for me is the winner here. An i5 would usually last around 3 years without bottlenecking a single GPU. But in terms of life span the i5 is great. I have an amd at home its an Fx 4100 and after 4 years its already bottlenecking big time. The i5 even though with the price point is great. A little bit more and you get much more performance. Yeah hope you choose the i5 bro.
