Hello, I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm currently looking for an external/cloud storage solution. I won't have direct access to the router so a hdd connected by Ethernet to the router is not an option. With that said, I'm looking for a hard drive (preferably larger than 1 tb) that I can connect wirelessly to my network so that I can access it from anywhere, but would also like some type of port on the storage device to allow for a direct connection to my computer in case I have a very large file transfer. Is this even possible without having a direct connection to the router? I looked at devices such as the Apple Time Capsule that I believe may work, but I'd like confirmation and perhaps some other devices that could work as well. If it matters, I'm using a MacBook pro running Lion, but would like cross-platform functionality.

Thanks so much!
Dustin

Hey there, Dustin!

Yes, I believe there is the AirPort Utility that can enable the Apple TC to connect to a network wirelessly.
I can also suggest you to take a look at our WD My Passport Wireless external drive.
It provides you with up to 2 TB storage capacity and a built-in SD card slot. It also can connect to your router wirelessly and you can hook up to 8 devices. Another thing about the My Passport Wireless that might interest you is that it has a USB 3.0 port, through which you can connect the external directly to your computer. This model comes pre-formatted in ExFAT for use with both Windows OS and Mac OS computers & devices. Oh, yeah, it also has a 2-year limited warranty.
