word,excel file corruption

Hello Everyone,
I'm using hp desktop with Windows xp sp2 suddenly all the word excel files are changed in to ms-dos Application and i'm unable to access the files i have lot of data on word excel format. some thing differently showing after the file-name for example "Coustomer Contact No.xls.id-7599569818_europay@india". anybody help me please......

It sounds to me like your computer has a virus. A common attack is for criminals to hack your computer, encrypt your files so that you cannot access them and then charge to have your files unlocked. If this is the case, the only way to get your files back will be to restore from a backup or to pay.
I hope you have a backup. Anyone still using windows XP should expect to have their computer hacked. Windows XP is no longer supported and is extremely dangerous to use.
