Should I buy a graphic card now or wait for this year's release from ATI/nVidia ?

Hey guys,

So I've recently made a medium range PC from scratch, meaning case, power supply, unlocked i5, z97 asrock anniversary and 8gb ram, while using an old 560 Ti form a friend. Main purpose of the pc is to be able to play star citizen and I was thinking about buying an ASUS R9 290.

Question is: should I wait a little bit longer for the new cards or should I just go ahead and purchase the r9 290 ?

Kind regards,

I would wait and see what the new releases do to prices for sure. It may not be in your price range, but it is very possible that it could influence the price of the 900 line from Nvidia. I wouldn't be surprised if it pushed the gtx 980 into the 400 dollar range.

if you really need the performance now then just get the card that can suit your need best. if you can wait then wait. you specifically mention about star citizen. it is wise to get the card after the game comes out if you really want to know what exact card will fulfill your need in that particular game.

i wondered why AMD have dropped heir prices so much.you can get a 280x for 170 quid and that should play most anything.i was getting 32 fps on firestrike benchmark test with a asus 270 direct CU OC 2 GB

well to sell card of course. so far AMD has not respond with nvidia 900 series. so they have don't much choice other than dropping their price. when nvidia priced 970 at 330 that really disturb AMD price.
