I have a normal USB keyboard connected to a new PC with an Asus Z97 Deluxe Motherboard.

I can see the Windows 8.1 boot logo (without the HDD loading). As soon as I press any key on my USB keyboard, I see the Win8 spinning donut (which continues to boot Win8.1; eventually to the Win8.1 login screen.

If it's an Asus BIOS setting, I'd really like to know which setting is causing this. If it's Win8.1, Id like to know where to fix it.

I know it must be something I changed inadvertently changed in the Asus BIOS (or in Windows), because my PC didn't do this up until a week ago.

Thanks in advance for any definitive advice!

Your PC is booting to windows but you want to speed it up? There is a setting in BIOS to enable fast boot which means it won't check any hardware. You won't have use of your kb or mouse till windows loads unless you make sure they are left enabled in the fast boot options. You can also go to msconfig/boot and on the right middle there is a window to set timeout. Lower the value from 30 to 10 and see if your boot speed improves. You can also check the nogui box to speed up your boot time.
