Hi.
I have a new PC build (motherboard, CPU, graphics card, RAM, PSU), but the BIOS sometimes does not detect the one hard drive.
I have two hard drives that worked perfectly in the old system, with an ASUS M3N78 Pro motherboard. But in this new system, the one hard drive is sometimes not detected. Checks on both hard drives show they are working fine, with no problems or corrupt sectors.
I have changed the SATA and power cables, and plugged the hard drive into different SATA ports, but it makes no difference. Sometimes the BIOS refuses to detect the one hard drive no matter what I do. The hard drive affected is not the boot drive.
Motherboard - ASUS M5A97 R2.0. Board came with latest BIOS version.
Samsung 830 SSD (SATA 3) - set to AHCI mode. BIOS always detects this.
Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 (SATA 2) - set to IDE mode. BIOS sometimes does not detect this.
LG DVD-RW drive SATA - set to IDE mode. BIOS always detects this.
If I set the hard drive to AHCI mode, it never gets detected by the BIOS. I am starting to wonder if there is a fault with the new motherboard. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.
