ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 issue: CPU_LED, no POST beep

So about 3 years ago, I built a custom computer with the following specs:

P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
intel i7-2600k
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 4GB RAM
Nvidia EVGA geforce gtx 670
1 tB Western Digital SSD
Corsair TX750M PSU

Recently (past few months) I've had issues booting up the system. I would power it on, and the fans would spin up but I'd get no POST and the cpu_led would be lit up. After several restarts (including removing PSU power cord) the PC would eventually turn on and run smoothly. However, now that doesn't seem to be working anymore. When I start the machine, the fans spin but the cpu_led is still red. One time, I re-seated the RAM and re-plugged in the power cords to the motherboard and cpu and it worked. I thought it was a hardware problem until this simple tinkering fixed the problem. I'm trying to do the same now but still no joy, and the cpu_led remains on. I was hoping someone with a similar issue could help out? I will replace hardware if I have to, but I don't really want to do that until I've exhausted all other possible solutions (most of these parts aren't under warranty anymore).

More info: When I remove the power cord from the PSU to the CPU 8-pin connector, I get the same result: fans spin, no post beep, cpu led on. I tried the adapter, with one side plugging into the PSU and another into the CPU 8-pin connector, but that doesn't work either. I'm trying to figure out if this is a PSU issue or a CPU issue (I checked for bent pins and they're all fine).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Edit: I put in a new PSU (also 750W) but I get the same exact issue. Now I know it has to be the motherboard or CPU. But I can't find a decent board compatible with a LGA1155 CPU or vice versa so I'll probably end up buying both in a few weeks. If anyone has any other solutions, I'd appreciate it.

Hello,
I have had sort of the same problem. With my computer, if I shutdown and then quickly reboot, the fans will spin but I do not get video output. What I have to do (and this is weird) is switch off the power supply, then click the power button several times. One or more of your fans may spin until they run out of power and turn off. Then I switch on my power supply and boot the computer. My problem seems to be one or more of the capacitors still has charge after shutting down. I think this may be due to a bad power supply. This my not work for you, but it is worth a try.
Hope this helps,
Christian

OK so if I understood right, I switched off the power supply (l to O) and pressed the power button on the MB multiple times. Once the comp was completely off, I booted it again but I still get the same error. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'm 90% sure this is a PSU issue so I'll try to borrow one and see if the issue persists.
