Good evening guys,
I built my own PC for the first time last week, and as you might expect made some major oversights along the way. The main one being that I did not realise the graphics card I purchased (AMD R9 290) had DVI-D outputs rather than DVI-I. As such my VGA-only computer monitor is currently useless. My second screen (TV with VGA / HDMI inputs) is just about usable with HDMI but the picture is horrendously blurry. I have trawled through the forums and tried the various solutions (changing over/underscan, frequency, resolution, TV settings, CCC settings etc) but have not had any luck. The screen used to work perfectly with VGA.
Until I can get a new DVI-D friendly screen, do you guys have any advice / experience about digital output to VGA adapters? I have HDMI, Display Port and DVI-D outputs available on the graphics card, and I understand VGA adapters exist in some form for all of them (I think the DVI-D adapter only works if it's an 'active' one).
What would be the best temporary fix, an HDMI to VGA adapter? Computer spec below for reference:
Intel i5-4590 processor
Crucial MX100 SSD (256gb)
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Ram (2x4GB)
MSI AMD R9 290 graphics card
Gigabyte Z97P-D3 motherboard
Thank you for reading. Any comments would be welcome (apart from 'if you can afford a 290 you can afford a new screen...' which is the most common answer I have found!).
