I have a PNY GTX 770 2gb OC in my system currently and I'm currently attempting to overclock it with MSI afterburner. I can only squeeze out about +30Mhz Core and +75MHz memory about before the graphics driver or games start crashing, I haven't really played with the Voltage at all since it only goes up to +12mV for some reason and it also seems to make the card a lot less stable, I also have the power limit set to 104% because I don't want the card possibly going over 90 degrees.

Am I doing something wrong? First time overclocking and normally the increase I see around the internet for most gpus is much larger.

System Specs
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Asus M5A97
RAM: 8GB [4gb x 2] DDR3-1600
PSU: 750W Corsair Gold PSU
Storage: 1TB HDD and 500GB SSD
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Z
Case: Cooler Master Storm Stryker

If I stress test it with FurMark it'll hit 90 degrees within a minute and for games like Shadow Of Mordor it'll sit somewhere between high 70's when not too much going on to high 80's once more stuff starts to happen and maybe even a 90 for a second or two.

Dusting helped a bit I now top out at 87 degrees with furmark running instead of 90+, haven't tried thermal paste yet but could the fact that I have my sound card only like 5cm below one of my 2 gpu fans have something to do with it?

I actually don't have any fans I can use for that since I live in QC, Canada I never had any need to buy any sort of fans apart from ceiling ones. Should I try adding 2 120mm intake fans to the bottom of my case? I was thinking of Thermaltake Pure Series 12 since they're only 11$ a piece. My current air flow setup is something like this: http://fulltower.computer-parts-store.com/images/Cm_Storm_Scout_10_large.jpg minus the bottom ones of course. I'd like to avoid messing with the physical aspects of the gpu as much as possible because I'm not 100% sure how the warranty on these things work.

Just applied some Arctic Ceramique 2 after cleaning the gpu and adding new fans, so far it actually runs hotter but that just may be because it hasn't fully set yet, will post in a week or two for update

Aside, not all card overclock well. If they did then Manufacturers would set the factory default higher. Use MSI or GPU-z to see your stock voltage and compare to other 770s. If you stock voltage is high then your chip probably is not a good OC'ing chip. If you use GPU-z and click the icon in upper left on the first page there is a "read ASIC quality" function. ASIC means the GPU chip (application-specific integrated circuit)

Aside2: many card manufacturers SORT the GPUs they get based on how high they can OC, then sell the higher OC'ing GPUs on higher OC'd boards for more money. If PNY sells a GTX 770 with a higher OC then your card odds are your GPU would have been used on the higher OC board if it worked there.

Wow what a difference that made, used the pea dot method to reapply the thermal paste again and after stress testing my gpu for 3 mins its only at 74-75 degrees compared to the 90+ it would get in like thirty seconds before, no pictures needed, the line method sucked lol. Should I try bumping up my MHz's again now?

Also @tsnor my idle VDDC is 0.9500V and under heavy use it goes to 1.0750V and can spike up to 1.1200V for a few seconds. The ASIC Quality ( still have no idea what that is) says 87.6%

Tried overclocking again, went from +30MHz Core and +100MHz Memory to +60MHz Core and +200Mhz Memory.
Thing is though it still feels really low because the Core Voltage bar slider out at +12mV and the Power Limit % maxes at 106% in msi Afterburner while the temperature now tops out at around 73-75 degrees, anything else that can be done here or is this about as much as I'll probably get?
