So I bought a Pentium G3258 and in my haste to build my first PC I just stuck the cooler onto the cpu. I'm wondering if the cooler had thermal paste pre applied. And if there is thermal paste, is it just there ready to go, or did I have to peel something off to expose the paste? Thank you guys for any help, I'm eager to get this thing up and running.

Yes intel stock coolers have thermal paste pre applied if you bough it new in a sealed box. If it didn't have paste your cpu would be cooking itself alive right now and probably wouldn't work for much longer. Download hwmonitor and tell me the temps or post a screenshot of it if you want to be sure.

I still have to install the OS and all of that. I'm on my laptop now. The heatsink was installed correctly, I'm just wondering if there was like a pull tab or something that exposes the thermal paste.

I cant remember it very well might. But i think it would be pretty noticeable if it was there.
