The biggest factors with powerline networking is the wiring between devices, whether they are on the same phase, how much noise your appliances put on the line and how much filtering there is on all the stuff plugged in along the way. Things like the X2 caps in devices' EMI filters can add substantial attenuation at the higher frequencies used by the networking adapters.
How well it will work can vary drastically from outlet to outlet.
