Hey guys! The other day I made a post asking for build suggestions and advice. I've taken those suggestions and expanded my budget a bit to get some higher end hardware parts.

Here's the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LvNft6

I opted for a 144hz monitor so I don't bottleneck the fps, sorry if I misused the term, but I assume that's what would happen because doesn't 60hz mean 60fps can be delivered max? But with the GPU and CPU I should pull over 60fps in a lot of games.

I've heard a lot about the i7 being overkill, I guess I assumed more games down the road may potentially utilize the HT so I figured spending the $100ish more might pay off. Not sure if GTA V or Evolve would take advantage of it. Those are newer and I'd love to be able to run them.

I figured I'd have enough speed here to not really worry about overclocking, so the option is there if I ever want to learn more about it and try it out, but unless it really matters I probably won't do it. That being the case I figured the GPU cooling would be fine as it is as would the CPU with that extra cooler I picked out.

The tower case itself I thought I may need to change. Such as opting for a more expensive one, unless a cheaper priced one like the one in the build is fine. Not sure is price equates to quality on those.

So it's just pushing over $1800. If I upped the tower case I'd like to lower something else to keep it right around that $1800 price. For instance the keyboard, it looks really quality but I'm not sure I need that keyboard starting out. So if I got a $40 higher tower case I might go for a $40 cheaper keyboard.

If the i7 is truly unnecessary I may opt for the i54690k (I think that's right?) or the Xeon as somebody in my previous thread mentioned and that would save me ~$100. Though, and do correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems useful enough to go for as a sense of future proofing a bit more.

Anyways, sorry for the length, tried to break it up so no wall of text, just wanted to explain where I'm coming from as a newbie! But let me know what you guys think. Thanks again guys (and gals)!

Solution
It looks pretty good right now. If you can afford it, get the 4790k. I have one and I really like it and have no regrets. If I didn't get it I would have gotten the Xeon. In the future, clock speed will not be a substitute for threads and cores. Anyways, for the case I highly suggest that you upgrade to something of a higher quality. Things like rattling issues, cable management, and included fans are all something someone must consider when buying a case. So with all of that in mind, the NZXT Phantom 410 is an excellent option. It has great cable management, plenty of fan options and also way more than enough included fans, (If you want to keep them).

In this build I changed the memory so that it matches the motherboard. You would be...

In this build I changed the memory so that it matches the motherboard. You would be surprised at how memory can really tie in the way a build looks. I am not sure why that PSU was suggested or used by whoever but the EVGA B2 is a less expensive (750W version) and higher wattage option which will allow for SLI in the future.

For the keyboard, the one you added is a little overkill. The Cooler Master one I added is excellent and is still mechanical with blue switches. If you would like a different switched keyboard then they have those in different colors. IE. The MX Red switched one has red LEDs I believe.

Please ignore the compatibility error that PCPartPicker is saying. That is completely wrong and they need to fix it. The Phantom 410 has removable drive bays which allow for a graphics card length up to the length of the case which is much longer than 300mm.

So the i7 is worth the tad extra? That paired with the GTX 980 should have me running at some damn nice fps right? :D

And since I won't be overclocking right off the bat, my cooling situation should be fine? (Thanks for keeping the SLI in mind with the PSU btw as that may be something I try down the road as well)

Yeah I figured the case I had would be the glaring weak spot of the build. No problem upping that at the cost of dialing down my keyboard. So in that particular case the video card actually would fit fine without any wonky issues?

Thanks for the response and tips!

Does the case light up? Nice lookin' thing you got going on there! Seems like some good tweaks you gave me, I think it became my final build! Thanks for including the picture I see what you mean now.

Oh very nice! Well thanks for your help bud!

Super nervous, it'll be my first build and I extended my budget a bit to hook it up with some powerful stuff, but this seems like a decently long lasting build. Should be fun!

Ah I'll surely be taking you up on that! I'll undoubtedly be a tad lost when I first get everything and will need a bit of guidance.

Thanks a bunch you've been super helpful, take it easy! :)
