Hello everyone, my name is Christopher. I am ready to take that leap into the PC Master Race. I would like to build a PC with a budget of $3,000. The main focus of the PC would be for playing video games with the best experience possible. The second main function of this PC needs to be multimedia. (Recording programs IE. recording the game play.) The main focus in the multimedia would be editing, processing, and uploading videos and music.

Don't go for z97, grab x99 since you have the money and go for one 980, two 980's or the titan x . I'd go titan for two reasons, it is the single best gpu on the market atm and you can say. "I have a titan"
for that kind of money, you should get an i7 5960x or a 5930K either one is great, I would recommend the 5930K as it is half the price, and I doubt you will really need all eight cores. for GPU although this sounds crazy, perhaps a Titan X? if you get the 5930K you will still have plenty of money left over. A SLI of 980s would work great too, however, there is then some SLI issues (not many). you will get better performance in most games off of the dual 980 SLI, however if the game does not support it you will have to deal with lesser frame rates. what resolution do you want to play at? you may only need a single 980 if 1440p is fine with you. A good X99 motherboard would probably be the Asus Rampage board, as they look great and are chock full of features. I would recommend about 24 or 32 gigs of RAM, however there is absolutely noting wrong with sixteen and if you are not doing intensive rendering and other stuff of that sort (which you will probably not really ever do enough to warrant getting the extra RAM) then just get four sticks of 4GB ram and save the other four slots for the ability to go up to 32 or higher should you need to upgrade. I am not sure if you will want a sound card. but as the motherboard has some form of a built in sound card you should be fine. A full ATX case is a highly recommended idea. you will want two HDDs in RAID to hep with your recording, as SSDs do not like a lot of writing. you do not need velociraptors, bit two 2 or 1 TB HDDS 7200 RPM will be great. Do not get WD greens or any intellipower drive. For the sake of getting great hardware, just get a h100i or something of the likes for your CPU and do not bother with an open loop. A boot SSD is a great idea if you have extra funds after you order everything. please let me know which detail you want clarification on.

There's a few ways to approach this. GTX 980 SLI :), Titan X :d or R9 295X2 . This is simply one option. It may not be the worst or the best solution, but the simplicity of a single air cooled card seems good to me. Opinions vary...
