Sudden temp rising after chasing case?? (fx 6300)

As the title says. I had my fx 6300 on stock cooling, installed on a small generic case with only one 80 mm exhaust fan. My temp readings by then were about 36-40 celsius idle and no more than 59 while playing games. I have now upgraded my old case to a Zalman z12, which is a mid-tower case with 3 fans (front input, top exhaust and back exhaust that don´t spin as fast as I thought they would but still push some air) and is supposed to be way better than a generic case in terms of airflow. At the same time I did that, I replaced the stock thermal compound with a new one (arctic mx4, which is supposed to be marvelous).

After doing all this I got greatly dissapointed when my temp readings were even higher than the ones with the stock case and thermal compound. Now my cpu idles at 39-43 Celsius (about 5 degrees more than before) and easily goes up to 60 degrees only by watching some videos on youtube and browsing.

What do you guys think is going on here? I would really appreciate your help. Do you think I put too much/too little thermal compound and I should re-apply it? Or is it the case that is not pushing enough air out? (as I mentioned above, the fans seem to spin rather slowly, but still work).

You should have only about a pea sized amount of thermal paste on it, any more and you risk the cpu. Make sure the case is setup well (Air comes in one direction and leaves a different). Cases not setup right can cause a lot of problems for airflow inside. My cases are setup with more air coming out than going in.

I will try to do it again and see what happens. Do you think the case might be a possibility too?

I used a very small strip (a bit more than a rice grain) and then spread it using only the pressure of the heatsink over the cpu when I installed it. Then i took it back off again to see if it was well spread. There seemed to be no problem but I will try to redo it with maybe a little less paste.

About the case, the front fant is pulling air inside the case (I guess, because I can´t feel it when I put my hands on the outside) and the back and top fans are both pushing air out. Could it be a problem if the fans are spinning too slow? because I don´t notice them pushing as much air as I expected... or are they supposed to spin rather slowly in order to keep things quiet?? If that is the problem, how can I fix it if I don´t have a fan controller installed?

Someone told me that it´s not good to take the heatsink off (i did it to check if it was well spread) once you applied the thermal paste because it can create micro air bubbles that mess with the heat transfer, could that be a possibility? This guy told me I should just put a small drop, put the heatsink and let it spread by itself with the heatsink´s pressure.

That is half correct. You need to be able to take it off to put the paste on. You should apply the paste with a rice to pea sized amount in the middle and let it spread itself once you get it back on.

That is what I meant hahah. I´m going to re-do my thermal pasting and check the temps again.

By the way, all my 3 case fans are connected to a single cable that goes to the PSU. Two of them go through a 3-pin to molex adaptor with two 3-4 pin slots, and the other one is connected in the "female" side of the same molex adaptor) , could that be the reason they are running a bit slow?? My guess is maybe one single cable doesnt provide enough power for 3 fans... Should I try plugging them in 2 or 3 independent cables to make them spin faster?? Or are they supposed to be like that?

That shouldn't harm it but you can try different ones.

Or maybe trying to put them directly to motherboard. And maybe thinking about buying hyper 212 evo aftermarketcooler becaus I have an idea of how loud can an amd fx stock cooler be. The hyper 212 evo is running queit as a queit bee xD

Yes, I am planning to buy it pretty soon. But new and better case and new and better thermal compound shouldn´t give me higher temperatures, even with the stock cooler.

I re-applied the thermal paste using the recommended amounts and method in this and other threads and made sure to check the cooler was in the proper position (it was fit tight in its place and didnt move at all even if I tried to). The airflow seems to be ok too. I don´t know, what am I missing?

After this I get 38 C° on 0% load, 42° during light web browsing, 55° in League of Legends and it raises over 63 if I stress test it during a couple minutes. If it improved at all, the difference seems to be minimal. Are these temps expectable? Would a Hyper 212 evo improve that greatly?

The fact that they were cooler in a poorly vented case with stock thermal paste still unsettles me. But I guess I will have to try aftermarket cooling. Thanks for your help !
