Hello, I have already posted a question regarding using recovery disc on a new hard drive, however I have another question if anyone could help. I tried loading a recovery disc I've made but it kept telling me the partition structure was incorrect, so I contacted manufacturer support (Lenovo) and they said with the recovery disc they send, will fix the issue. However when I loaded the disc and try to recreate the partition from the set up page, partition error message comes up. The tech at the lenovo told my my hard drive was bad even tho it shows from my bios. Do I need to get a new hard drive? and can I use the recovery disc I received from lenovo on the new hard drive? Thank you for reading

Hey there, James! Welcome to Tom's Hardware!

This is a very unfortunate situation you are in. What you could try to determine that the fault is in the HDD is testing the drive using a DOS version of a diagnostics utility. Since you can't boot into Windows, this is the only way to test drive in your system.
Check your HDD manufacturer's website for such a tool, if it's not available, you might as well use WD's Data LifeGuard for DOS.

If it's indeed the HDD and your laptop is still within the warranty, you should again contact your laptop manufacturer and ask them for a replacement.
I'd also try a fresh install of the operating system before changing the hardware.

Good...

Thank you for the information, I somehow got the command prompt on from recovery screen and tried to run chkdsk but it showed that there was an error and wouldn't even start so I had no choice but to shut it down and tried once again to see what I can see from bios. It showed there was no drive, so finally the hard drive kicked the bucket and now looks like I have to get a new hard drive and hopefully try to restore with the recovery file. If that doesn't work I'll try to get a copy of a window 7 and do a new install. I appreciate the help thank you again and cheers.

Well, James! I just hope you didn't have any important data on it! Usually the best way to avoid these annoyingly unfortunate situations in the future is to backup the data on several locations! Better safe than sorry, right? :)
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Best of luck!
