Is there a Driver to make a WD1600XMS-00 compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate?

what kind of cable are you using? what USB port are you going into? typically these things use a Y-cable to get power from dual USB ports (or a single high-power USB port like USB3 or high-current-USB2). if you're using a plain single cable, that might be an issue.

Hey there lelemb. Windows 7 Ultimate shouldn't have any problems recognizing it, if the drive is in good health. I have the exact same drive at home and I use it even now after all this time (also bought it in 2007) with my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 laptop without any issues. I use it with a USB 2.0 port (because those are the only ones I have on my laptop) but I've tried it with USB 3.0 and it works just as well. I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different USB cable (not longer than 12") to see if the same thing happens. Does the led light up? Do you hear/feel it spin when connected or do you hear any unusual sounds/noises coming from the drive?
I'd also suggest that you donwload DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic) to see if it recognizes the drive so that you can run the tests and see what's the situation with the HDD. Here's a link for it: Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

Hope that helps. Let me know how everything goes.
