Hello everyone i want to upgrade my pc so it can play newer games but the problem is the budget i'm having right now. I have about 150$ budget. I'm looking at a Core 2 Quad 9550 cpu. If i upgraded to the q9550 i won't have to change the mobo. if i choose the i5 i have to upgrade the cpu+ram. The mobo i'm having right now is an asus p5g41t-m lx3 i already checked the cpu support and it support the q9550.
So the main question is should i upgrade to q9550 without changing the mobo? or should i upgrade to the i5 but changing the mobo and ram?

Solution
I have a couple of halfway solutions.

1/ get a lower clocked C2Q like the q9400 or q9300 as they are usually far, far cheaper. You can save the rest towards an i5

2/ get this

No, if i going with the i5 i have to wait about 4 or 5 months and probably get the 4690k but the trouble is i can't play many games at this time with my e6600

if it's only 4-5 months, i'd say tough it out and wait and then do the i5 upgrade. eh, as long as you'll also have a decent GPU for that!

Q9550 is a huge upgrade over any old dual core CPU and should provide enough power for comfortable gaming. Make sure you get one for cheap, because they are available everywhere these days for peanuts. Make sure you also have a decent graphics card and enough memory, depending on what you are playing. 8GB is recommended, although 4GB is good enough for older games.

Dude obviously the i5 totally destroys the the other 2 but the chipset is years apart... So I`d say go for i5 and spend a lot more once of and be much happier, if you can of course. Otherwise the Q9550 will have to do.
