I am not into gaming, but what is the advantage of getting a custom build PC over the PS4 or XBox One?
I know a good gaming PC goes for about +-$2000 and the games console $400-700.

Is there a comparison chart that shows the difference in performance, graphics and fps?

The biggest difference is the price of games. In the Uk Pc games are £40. Xbox/PS games are £50.

You need to know more about PC's and the learning curve is sharper but the end result is much more satisfying. That being said I have an Xbox just to play COD and Halo.

You can get a fully competent gaming pc for $1300.

A high end gaming PC will have more fps, better graphics, and support higher resolutions then a console.

The benefit of the console besides not needing to know how to build a pc or understand components, is that 3 years latter the console games are still optimized for that console, 3 years latter a PC on the other hand is showing its age and is out of date and will not play the newest games on ultra settings anymore.

Disagree. You can use 3 year old kit to play on Ultra. Heck I did FC4 on High on a six year old system (3 year old gpu) before the end of last year.

I was meaning the newest most cpu intensive AAA games.
The now 3 year old GTX 670 is not going to play new AAA titles on ultra at 60+ fps

But you also said a budget of $1300 is what gives you a good computer. That would have been easily enough for dual 670's, not just one. And that is still enough for ultra settings in most modern AAA games at 1080p.

Common misconception about a gaming PC, is the need to constantly upgrade.
You ONLY need to upgrade a PC if you want to ALWAYS have maximum settings with the highest framerate.
There is nothing preventing one from buying a $800 gaming PC, and as the years go on, lowering some graphical settings. It will still be more visually appealing than a console counterpart in the end.

It'll do pretty dang well. And certainly better than an Xbox 1 or PS4 that only runs at 30fps most of the time. My GTX 660 runs Shadow of Mordor on Ultra @ 55fps @1080p with everything turned on.

Wow, everyone is focusing on specific details and is missing the point.

I am not saying that 3 year old PC hardware will not play better then a console will, or that you cant just turn down the settings, or anything like that.

My point was that todays PS4 game and a PS4 game in 2018 will still be designed to run at the same performance level on the same hardware inside the PS4. On a PC, 2018 game titles will be coded to utilize the modern 2018 hardware. Thus a GTX 980 wont play 2018 titles at the same settings/fps that it can on 2015 games. Naturally, come 2018 the GTX 980 is still miles ahead of PS4.

No, the main difference will not be just average FPS. PC's also tend to run games at settings consoles can't reach. So aside from getting higher FPS, PC's also get higher resolutions, better textures, better post-processing, etc. In the end, the graphical quality is much higher, specially as time goes on and devs "optimize" games for consoles, which really just means they learn which settings to disable first.

As also mentioned, cost of games is a big difference. Games can cost much, much less on the PC side. Images like this abound on the internet to prove this.

Also, from that image we can be reminded that PC does not charge you for multiplayer. A pretty fundamental difference overall. Some may try to justify the cost with the bonuses the console manufacturers throw in, though.

Finally, there's the fact that most people who game on a console also have a PC for other uses. Instead of spending $500 on a console and $500 on a PC, one can spend $1000 on the PC and get a better gaming experience while also getting a lot more functionality.

There are plenty more differences one can get into. I'm quite personally opinionated in one camp, as you can probably tell, but I'll let someone else fill in the other side if they so desire.

If it wasn't for Halo I wouldn't even own an Xbox One, and I've had all the xbox consoles. As well as always owning a gaming PC.

If I had to pick it would be the PC hands down. With digital libraries like Steam you don't lose access to your games each generation also.

I was kidding around a bit, I know the consoles suck resolution wise.
