Not certain on Ram, advice?

Okay, I'm not the greatest when it comes to Ram and I'd like to upgrade the measly 4GB I have at the minute to 8GB. I'll be taking out the single 4GB and replacing it with 2x4GB. I suppose I could get another 4GB stick the same as my current, but this brings me on to the main question. The Ram in my PC currently is 1.35v 1600MHz DDR3. Now, I was wondering if I get 1866MHz ram, would my Mobo cope? I'm aware that 1866Mhz Ram would use more power, but then even 90% of 1600mhz ram uses more power than the current one. No idea why it's such low power. Anyway, The motherboard is Asus, which is all I know about it as it's a stock board that came with the PC. I am aware that most of Asus' motherboards have a feature that supposedly allows pretty much any ram to be ran and it'll do all the adjusting. If I put the two sticks in, would the motherboard be able to undervolt and throttle down the speeds if it's not compatible with the higher speed and voltage? Also, is there anyway program or anything to find out the max voltage and speed the motherboard can take in terms of Ram? Sorry this is pretty lengthy, I'm not the best at summarising, as you can probably tell.

Thank you very much! :) Will look into it. Doesn't seem right though. A cheap-ish PC I picked up in PC world can take 3100MHz ram? I was expecting max 1866Mhz or something.

I see, but I was a bit thrown to see the motherboard can take that high quality of ram. My CPU can only take 1600Mhz according to Intel's website. Shame, was hoping I could get 1866Mhz.
