I'm using a wireless network adapter for my desktop. I'm normally getting 2 - 3 bars of signal, while my laptop gets 5 constantly, even though it's right next to my desktop. I've already tried buying a new network adapter, but to no avail. Both of the adapters i've tried connect to the motherboard through PCI-E x1.

Does anyone know what the issue could be?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
The laptop likely has better placement of its antenna. The laptop are generally behind the screen. The main disadvantage to PCI cards over USB is the antenna sit very close to the metal case of the computer. The case itself can block a huge amount of your signal. This is even more true if you have the desktop shoved under as desk and against a wall.

Try turning the desktop so the antenna face the router

My computers are located in the basement, and the router is in the room just above it.

My desktop pretty much just stays at home, but I use my laptop for studying so that one is all over the place. I have tried different PCI-E slots for the adapters.

That did the trick, but the front end of my PC is now facing the wall, haha.

Thank you
