Hello,
i have two old hard disks with windows 7 on and wanted to connect them and use them on my laptop, so i bought 2 cases for them to connect via USB, but every time i plug them in via USB the blue screen occurs while loading windows. i'm quite sure that they work because to test i re-insert them as the laptop hard disk and they work that way, but i can't really think i just bought two different cases that cause the same problem ,am i missing something?

Welcome to the community, Stefano!

@Calculagator is right! It is possible to run Windows off an external but you'd need the technical knowledge to do that.
Generally, external HDDs connected via USB are limited to 20 MB/s, whilst an internal HDD connected via SATA can reach ~ 600 MB/s (SATA III). So I think the BSOD is just Windows' reaction to the pain of slow external boot. Besides the external will need to be tied to this computer's hardware only or computer with identical hardware.
I guess what you can do is maybe try dual booting on your internal HDD. As far as I know your options for an external boot are limited to Linux-based operating systems.

Hope I was helpful! Best of luck! :)
