Hey guys,
So I decided to move my hard drive from my old computer to my new computer. It is an SSD Samsung drive and is considered my third internal hard drive. The other two internal hard drives are a 256 SSD boot drive which boots Windows 8.1 and a 2 TB 7200 SATA hard drive.
So after I installed the Samsung SSD drive, everything worked fine. The computer powered up with no issues.
Then, I put my computer into hibernation mode and after waking it up, my computer monitors would not turn on. The computer lights were on as if it was working but the PC monitors would not work.
So I shut down the computer completely and tried to turn it on and still no luck. Still same issue: computer appears to turn on fine but the monitors do not turn on. Keep in mind that my keyboard and mouse do not appear to be functioning either when this happens. I also disconnected all USB devices and still no luck.
So I unplugged the internal SSD Samsung drive at this point and the computer AND monitors then turned on.
After than, I shutdown the computer once again and plugged the SSD drive back in just to see if the computer would not start. Guess what? Computer actually booted up and worked! Weird! So it appears computer starts up on the first startup after plugging in the new SSD drive but once shutdown the first time, will not start back up.
Then I shut down the computer and, you guessed it, the computer would not turn on with the SSD drive back in.
So here is the summary:
1) With third SSD drive plugged in, computer works fine after first startup. But then, after shutting it down the first time, the monitors will not turn on and mouse and keyboard do not work.
2) With SSD drive plugged in, computer always RESTARTS ok.
3) With SSD unplugged, computer operates fine.
I thought it was the boot order but when I go into BIOS, it does not give me hard drives to select from. It only says "Windows Boot Manager", "USB hard drive" and then lists two PCI slots. And I do not have a USB hard drive plugged in.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Right now as I type this my SSD is plugged in but I'm afraid to do a complete shutdown.
