ok so on a related note have you heard of anyone having problems upgrading my particular model Predator G3620 from the stock GT 640 to anything like a GTX 760 or 960? I've heard some say its no problem but then I've also seen things randomly online where people were saying it wont work bc of some mb issue....?

Thanks so much for your help but also ok so on a related note have you heard of anyone having problems upgrading my particular model Predator G3620 from the stock GT 640 to anything like a GTX 760 or 960? If it is the $1200 predator with a 3xxx series i7 then you have the cpu to run a 970 or 980 no problems and there is no issue with motherboard compatibility.

Now power supply is a different ball game.
If all you had was a gt-640 then I highly doubt they put in a power supply capabile of handling the load of a high end GPU, especially one with decent quality.

Thus you should get an Antec, XFX, Seasonic or EVGA (B2 or G2 series, not B1/G1) power supply rated for whatever card you choose, 450-500w for a GTX-960, 600w for a GTX-970. Both of those cards will run with less power but this gives you plenty of wiggle room and will last you for many years.

one thing I seen from doing sil is its good when you got things optimized for it but in the long run a powerful single card ends up better due to les issues dealing with 2 cards[ driver ,software games ] , heat issues due to 2 slot cards stacked one on top of each other power demands ... ect

so I'm just giving my opinion on that and would go with the single 980 [opinion]
