Latency/Ping really high, any ideas why?

Lately I've been having a very annoying issue when it comes to latency or ping with my internet. The ping will be really high all the time so long as my wireless router is connected to my modem.

This issue persists even after I connect my PC to the modem directly. (I made sure my computer isn't connected to the wireless at all before trying this) But as soon as I disconnect the wifi router from my modem, and only my PC is connected to it directly, the internet is fine.

I've tried several different wireless routers and I keep getting the same problem. I think the issue might be my modem, since every computer in the house has it.

Connecting directly to the modem with wireless running through my home, and my wireless disabled on my computer still creates a high ping issue.

I have called the tech support for our ISP several times and they're never able to figure out what the issue is, when they reset the modem the ping drops to normal for about 20 minutes, then the problem comes back.

So TL;DR my ping is high when a wireless router is connected, normal when I'm connected directly with no wireless router at all.

Something here does not make sense, if you have a direct modem connection to the modem, that means the router is not connected to the modem at all, and if you have wireless turned off, there is no way that the computer can be trying to send any signal to the wrieless first. But you said you conect the PC to the modem directly and then you can disconnect the router from the modem, whch means it's not just a modem but a gateway with it's own router inside, and possibly wireless. Is that the case? What device do you have from the ISP?

Sorry, I'm really confused by the problem myself. The "modem" I mentioned earlier is actually a gateway, it is a MOTOROLA Surfboard SBG6580

OK, the gateway setup makes a bit more sense, does that gateway have it's own WiFi hardware? If it does, the two could be causing issues, especially if you have them both setup on the same network and the equipment is going back and forth between them.

See if they could get you just a modem and you use your router.
