How would I format my hard drive downgrading from windows 8 to windows 7?

I was going to get a new motherboard so that means I would have to get a new OS. I was going for windows 7 since I prefer it and also because windows 10 would be free with it. I was wondering if you would have to format the hard drive when it asks you what drive you would like to place windows 7 on and then it has an option saying format. Would I have to do it there?

Hopefully you'll get good format. When I tried to remove Win 10 Preview, it refused to be removed. I had to do a deep format of the drive to get rid of it. Thank goodness it wasn't on a primary drive.
