is it safe to use a Aerocool strike X 600w as a temporary PSU for gtx 970 amp extreme core edition. I won't be overclocking it, or abusing it till my seasonic 620w arrives. I'm just wondering if it's enough for temporary use

Im going to disagree with you darkbreeze. I took a look at a couple of reviews of the Aerocool Strike and it tested ok. Not good, but OK.

The Strike-X 800W is not a failure like Aerocool's Value series, yet it is hardly a success. It is just a satisfactory product without anything extraordinary about its technical specs.

I think your fine using it. Especially as a stopgap until the Seasonic arrives.

Every other model of strike-x has poor reviews, like this one:

And I don't much trust xbit labs anyhow, as I've seen them give good reviews to some terrible units in the past, plus I was given a heads up by another PSU insider of trustworthy credentials to take anything printed by them with a grain of salt. (To put it in a nice way without being directly insulting.) So in my opinion, and that's all it is, I wouldn't personally trust my high end hardware with that unit.

It only takes five seconds, or less, for an inferior unit to toast your rig.

Nope, thats this guy:

It has been a long time since we have seen such a useless power supply come through our review process.... users would be better off taking their cash and setting it on fire rather than buying this unit........ it failed almost every test possible today......... horrible build quality. .......... It was downright noisy all of the time....like sticking your head in a vacuum cleaner...... the rest of my thoughts on this unit are probably not printable and use a lot of four letter words.......Retailers and e-tailers should be ashamed to be selling such a product

These are actual quotes and they were dead serious. Feel better about the Aerocool now, don't you?

The two reviews are almost identical on performance. X-bit just gave it better value ranking. They both showed about the same voltage regulation, ripple. The biggest issue was ripple on the 5v at full load exceeded the ATX spec. Not by a huge amount, though. And only under full load.

I wouldn't use it everyday. But for a couple days, you could do a lot worse.
