I was building a friend a pc and overclocked the CPU to 4.3 Ghz his is the A8 5500. It's a locked processor and at that speed its running smooth with temps around 37c. What I'm wondering is why I can OC that locked CPU like crazy but my i5 2400 can't go over 3.7ghz? Both motherboards where made for overclocking also.

what are your full pc specifications? don't leave out anything.

at first glance, your cpu isn't as overclockable as the amd apu. intel partially locked down it's multiplier i.e. you can only o.c. it up to a certain predetermined limit which are 4 bins (i.e. 4x 100 MHz) over current clockrates. i assume that translates to up to 3.7 GHz for single core turbo boost for your cpu. if you have certain motherboards, you might be able to apply the single core turbo boost clockrate to all cores using a bios tweak called multicore turbo or enhanced turbo or multicore enhancement (vendor-dependent). the o.c. limitations in this case has more to do with the cpu than the mobo. keep in mind that overclocking increases power use and heat dissipation, so you'd need good cooling system and a o.c. friendly setup.
