Hi,

I just need some help sorting things out. Here's the case, first I was eyeing for a updated desktop cpu, since I have been on laptops for quite a bit now (around 7 years) and my recent experience with my msi gaming laptop was a mess (I cannot withstand the heat issues, since it damages my hand, due to my habit of frequent hand washes).

So here's the thing, I have bought this antec isk vesa for our living room 2 or 3 years ago, and I am looking for something to fit this in.

I don't have issues with budget, and I can go as far as $3,000, since my plan is to upgrade my work station.

So let's go to my goals:

1. I want to build a decent rig for work and some casual gaming, and was eyeing on 2 - 3 4k monitor setup.

2. I am aiming for a computer that will be good for multitasking, as my job requires me to open a minimum of 20 tabs (which I know is memory consuming rather than cpu consuming).

3. I work a lot on spreadsheets and calculations, specially deduping, and it takes a while to de dupe a maxed out excel file with around 50 - 70 columns, I was aiming for a much more efficient computer for this.

4. I would also like to play some latest games, on my free time (e.g. gta v when it comes out, far cry 4, and other games that requires a lot of gpu horsepower).

5. The only reason I want to go for a 4790k is for future upgradability (I am hoping that this cpu can still get with softwares after 5 years or so).

I'm stuck on which cpu build to make, since I can go for a 30 - 40 ish fps on games with low settings, but still wants to reuse my antec isk vesa case (since I cannot find a itx case with similar foot print that can support my i7 build).

Antec ISK VESA 110 build:

A10 7800
best fm2 itx mobo I can buy
maxed out memory that can be supported by my cpu
fastest available ssd (was aiming for a samsung 850 pro)
lp cooler (going for the shuriken on this)

or

i7 4790k
gtx 970
maximus impact
m.2 or samsung 850 ssd
best ram i can buy
smallest itx case can buy with watercooling support
decent psu that can support the build
custom or pre made water cooling (e.g. seidon)

Questions:

1. Does the build for antec work with the built in pico psu? I don't have access to pico psu here in my country (Philippines).

2. Can my antec build meet all of my goals?

3. Is it worth it to build my antec build or to go with my i7 build?

4. If I am going for my i7 build, what case can you suggest (I looked into some like cooler master elite 110, bitfenix prodigy, and some others, but I am aiming for a case with similar footprint as my antec case. I saw the raidmax atomic and it's the closest to what I am trying to achieve, but I haven't seen any good reviews about it and any good videos that takes me to unboxing to building the rig so that I can visualize the entire case, inside and out).

5. Which ever build I go with, can they both drive the 4k displays? I don't have any work specific requirement, but I was happy looking into the 4k screen (this is based on a 40" 4k tv) and that's the reason I want to upgrade).

6. What other stuffs that you can suggest, given that I already have 2 builds (but i think they suck since it's been quite a while since the last time I have built a pc from scratch).

7. And lastly, is there such a thing as future proofing my rig? I mean I have a old cpu (p4 days) here and it still performs well, the only reason that I don't want to use it is because I have money to spare on a new rig (and I think it make sense, otherwise I would not be posting this if I have no money and will try to make my p4 cpu work :D)

Thanks for reading this long letter in advance. I have been visiting this forums for around a year now and it's just today that I registered.

You're not going to build what you want in that case due to the limited 90w power supply as well as other shortcomings, such as lack of space for 2 to 3 gpu's (needed for 4k gaming across 2 to 3 monitors)...

Sorry but you are much better off building another workstation and leave the isk for light duty tasks such as a htpc.

i see. but does the build i posted work for the isk case?

and for the 4k gaming, can the i7 build recoup that or does it really require a 2 way or 4 way sli build?
