Similar to HP Z800. The HP Z800 are good. They are probably hot and power hungry. May not have the necessary hardware to connect disks or any graphics subsystem.
It's got a 6-core Nehalem processor (1st gen i7). You might have issues installing modern GPUs into one because the power supplies are not designed to power the 250watt+ video cards they make now.
So, it's a decent deal if you understand what you're getting and that the hardware is likely heavily used (as in it has been on for 5 years 24/7).
seeing a boat load of Dell t5500 coming on Ebay, Dual Xeon 5660 6 core, good size HD, 24 GB ram.
$300 seems dirt cheap??
They have likely been run hard and put away wet if you know what I mean. Left running 24/7, depending on the business they have been used thoroughly, may be filled with dust and run hot.
They will do the job but if you plan to like play games with then you'll want to do some upgrades (PSU, Video card). I know people who buy these all the time and have no problems.
You guys confusing Xeon Workstation with Xeon File server.
They are built for doing The highest GPU demanding apps. Thats why The are the ultimate under the radar CHEAP - bang for the buck - games or CAD like stuff
