Hi, I don't know much about the SMART data and was hoping someone could help me interpret what is going on with this drive. Windows has been popping up some messages about a possible failing drive.

What does all this mean?

Hi there joshhazel,

Even though this parameter is considered to be a non critical one, it is below the threshold. I would advise you not to keep crucial data on this drive.
Apart from that, as most of the HDD manufacturers have their own testing tools, It may be a good idea to test the drive with a brand specific tool. Check whether the drive will pass the test and whether it will show similar results.

SeaTools is mostly useless. It will just tell you that your drive failed the SMART test. A surface scan (short or long self test) may or may not show any errors, but the Current Pending attribute is telling you that the drive has 2472 bad sectors which are waiting to be replaced.

The Seek Error Rate attribute is telling you that the drive has recorded 10 seek errors for every 1 million seeks. That is technically a failure and will entitle you to a warranty replacement.

For an explanation of Seagate's counterintuitive SMART attributes, see ...
