Hello all,

So, I am thinking about building another gaming rig (once I sell my old one of course: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547420/wts-red-nzxt-phantom-rig-9590-gtx-970-1600-1700-ship.html), but this thread isn't about my current rig, it's about my future rig.

So here are the parts:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/CRS10114/saved/#view=kK9BD3

Case: Thermaltake Core V21
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Chassis/Cube_Case_/Core/C_00002559/Core_V21/Gallery.htm

Motherboard: Asus Z97M-PLUS

CPU: Intel i7 4790k

CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9700

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2x8GB) 2400MHz (the gold colored ones)

PSU: XFX XTR 750W 80 Plus Gold

GPU: (Insert brand here) GTX 980

Case Fans:
-Intake: 4x120mm blue LED Cougar Dual-X (top)
2x140mm blue LED Cougar Dual-X (front)

-Exhaust: 2x140mm red LED Cougar Dual-X (side opposite of GPU)
1x140mm red LED Cougar Dual-X (rear)

You might notice that the storage drive is missing, that is because I will transplant it from my current rig to the next one.

Clearly, I am going for a quiet rig, so the card needs to be quiet as well. I'm not looking for absolute silence, just quiet. But the card also needs to be pretty good at heat control.

I would like to get a Gigabyte GTX 980 G1, but it's apparently noisy under load: http://www.techpowerup.com/mobile/reviews/Gigabyte/GeForce_GTX_980_G1_Gaming/26.html . Considering how well ventilated the Tt V21 is, I'm not too worried that the card would get to temperature that the fans would be so noisy, so I won't count this one out just yet.

Next up is the MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G. The only thing holding me back on this card is color scheme. I would like the main components (mobo, ram, GPU [I know the CPU cooler is copper, but I'm okay with that]) to be gold and black, so if I were to get this card, I would likely paint the accents gold. But that's the problem, I don't know how much of a pain it would be to paint the shroud.

Now for the EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0. I'm not sure about this one. I've read about the whole "misaligned heatsink heatpipes", and apparently that was part of the design. The two 8mm pipes have direct contact while the offset 6mm pipe is there for indirect heat dissipation. So hopefully heat isn't exactly an issue.

All of these cards are in a similar price range, so you can understand my indecision. I'm pretty sure the other parts are not going to change for me, unless there's better options somehow.

What do you think of my build? Questions and comments are welcome. Any help is appreciated.

Sincerely,
CRS10114

P.S. - I have considered the light from the fans will negate any reason to have a set color scheme, so I might be okay with the MSI Gaming G4's stock color. Tell me what you think.

I have the Gigabyte WF3 OC gtx980 and I've never noticed any noise from it, It has never managed to get audible over my AIO CPU cooler. The WF3 cooler is very good as well and with all the air flow your going to be having it will cool like a charm.

The Gigabyte is the one I'm really rooting for, I haven't found anything bad on it (aside from the noise complaint on techpowerup). I mean, it really comes down to aesthetics (assuming the cards perform similarly) and noise. I'm pretty confident I can overclock any of the cards to either match or surpass the others if I need to.

In case you didn't check the techpowerup review, they said that it was "noisy" (43 dbA) under load. But like you and I said, the amount of air I have flowing in the case should cool the card very well. Also, I'm not an absolute silence freak, I'm okay with an audible hum if it's under load.

Thanks for the input.
