OK I just got this system brand new and loaded up the case with fans. I've got three 120's (two top, one rear) and 2x140's up front with a stock Intel processor fan and an EVGA 970 GTX with three monitors. Elite Dangerous runs smooth as butter at max settings running Windows from SSD.

But - from what I'm reading here I think I'm too hot. I just ran Elite Dangerous and traveled from one system to another (maybe 8 mins tops). Attached is what I see. 96c core temp? is that correct? Is it too hot? Not too sure if something is wrong or if I need extra cooling, like I said - it's brand new. Any info would be appreciated.

I thought I could attach a pic, but I guess I can't. It says (CPUID HWMonitor) Temperatures: Core#0 95c, Core#1 95c, Core #2 94c, Core #3 92c, Package 96c

That's what I'm getting with CoreTemp

Are you overclocking the CPU or GPU? Are all the case fan locations on the Spec-01 populated? Have you double checked to make sure the case and cpu fan orientations are correct? Front and bottom fans should be intake, rear and top fans as exhaust. If you're not overclocking the stock fan SHOULD be able to handle the needs of the CPU, although an aftermarket fan is always a better option.

If there is not enough cool airflow through the case though, the stock fan is just trying to cool the cpu with hot air. Did the CPU cooler heatsink come with thermal material pre-applied? Are you sure the cooler bracket is fully locked down on all sides and the backplate it connects to isn't loose?

Maybe go into the BIOS and make sure that the fan profiles are all enabled and set to the standard settings. Make sure to enable the advanced view in the BIOS rather than any EZ style menu views.

You're temps are way too hot. Four more degrees and you'll start seeing throttling, which isn't good, and may actually already be happening to keep the temps where they are.

Either your CPU fan isn't ramping up with the temps, which would be due to it's BIOS fan profile, or you used too little, or more likely, too much, thermal paste. It's also possible you're heatsink isn't seated correctly with the proper mounting pressure or that one of the clips holding the cpu cooler heatsink down has either come loose or isn't fully seated. Double check that the CPU cooler is plugged into the motherboard CPU fan header as well.

C'mon dude, literally THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of machines with 4790k's running ALL kinds of applications run perfectly fine using the stock cooler. Yeah, you can't be overclocking with it, and the bearing probably won't last as long as an aftermarket cooler plus it will be significantly louder under load, but at stock clocks, it should be able to maintain temperatures that are below questionable levels. There is likely something else going on and it's probably either the paste job, the mounting pressure or the fan speed.

In reality, if you're not breaking the 100°C mark when running Prime95 version 26.6 on Small FFT for ten minutes, then you're probably ok. 96°C at stock clocks is a bit higher than we'd really like to see, but it's not beyond Tj Max and if there is no core throttling happening when under stress, then in real world use where it's never going to see loads that high, it will be fine. It would probably be a good idea to get and install an aftermarket cooler like the Cryorig H5, H7, Noctua NH-U12S, NH-U14S or even a crappy 212 EVO would be a major step up from the stock cooler. But you'd also be ok for now without it so long as you're not going any higher than where you are now on temps.

for 65 quid i defy any air cooler beat it for the same doe.with the temps he got his case is either too small or the fans are way inadiqate but most prob the heat-sink isn't on right, the bios could prob do with a default optimized settings too.

It's a good cooler, no question there, but at 99.00 US there are plenty of models, none of which are liquid coolers, that put up similar numbers, The three big Noctua coolers, NH-U14S, D14 and D15 being among them. The NH-U14S performance is only a couple of degrees less than the Raijintek Triton and it's thirty bucks less. But for a liquid cooler I'd agree that it probably outperforms the Corsair coolers in it's class. Not too sure I'd take it over a CM Nepton or a Swiftech cooler though.

i used to use the old artic freezer pro but my case let it down, you do not need a great heatsink throwing hot air all over the case so i bought a corsair h60 and WOW it halfed the temps.id love to be able to fit that h60 to a gpu it would be great.all in one water cooling has a place i recommend the Noctua NH-U14S the Phanteks PH-TC14PE and the Prolimatech Genesis Black,.my sniper m5 is green and black so the raijintec with green dye look the nuts.thats why i want an nvidia card instead of a r9 280x for the green,[crazy i know] but it does look good.

All understandable, but also ALL aesthetics, not performance related. As I stated before, aesthetics is a good reason to install liquid cooling, but going strictly from a performance perspective, unless you're going for huge overclocks and need a 280mm or bigger unit to do it, I don't like the choice for AIO liquid coolers.

changing the subject you have seen my rig,im buying a r9 280x xfx dd to replace my 270.going to buy a corsair gold cert fully modular rm 80 650 watt.will it be ok? also is your evga 750 g2 fully modular or semi?

The G2 is fully modular and it's a sweet unit. I don't like the Corsair CS, CX, RM or VS units for gaming cards. The only Corsair units I like for enthusiast or gaming use is the AX, AXi, HX and HXi units, which are seriously overpriced anyhow. The EVGA G series units are outstanding at great prices. The Seasonic and XFX modular units are as well. The Super Flower Golden Greens can't be knocked either, but are probably again overpriced.
