My wife has a Toshiba Satellite M105-S3084 from about 2006 with 32 bit architecture. Last year the drive began malfunctioning & finally died. Recently we bought a new drive & installed it. Her restore CD is long gone John & the Toshiba won't support Win 7 so I used an old XP disk I have. I'd had it on an older PC that died. It began installation but rejected the Key. In researching online I discovered this disk is an OEM so it cannot be reused. I even tried an older version of Windows but the laptop boots into XP and stalls at the Key authentication each try. I am wondering if I'm able to purchase a full retail version of XP, will the new Key for that OS be accepted in order to continue installation? If not, how can I erase the partial installation?

scout_03//I'll give your reply a try but it does have a new hard drive. In addition, it continues to boot back into the unfinished install even if I put a different disk into the drive.
Thank You

When I first set up, I had a blank new drive. When I put in the Install disk, it did perform a format. Then it stalled at the Key request. After that I spent an hour or so trying various methods-I changed the boot sequence in bios but it still booted into the XP setup and stalled. I switched back to CD/DVD boot-same result. I tried F12/Boot Select-no go. I even put in an install disk of an older OS and it still boots right back to XP install. There is no option presented to reformat or select another OS.

It's later in the day and I've done some more tinkering. This time I got the message to Select Any Key to Boot from CD and it reset me into a new install. I'm formatting the drive now. Thank you for your help.
