Gaming Rig: Should I Get Another SSD?

I have a Crucial M4 128 GB from 3 years ago and thought perhaps today SSD has dramatically improved and should get another SSD because both HDD and SDD is much cheaper now. It's really a luxury since SSD does little to none in improving gaming performance.

If you have a low end system then you really wont benefit much from a storage upgrade whereas you could benefit much more form a say a gpu upgrade.

Okay, I'll play along with you. I have a GTX 980 EVGA superclocked. Now this is my question to you. How does SSD and GPU affect one another?

The main question is still: Are SSD so much better today than my Crucial M4 purchased 3 years ago that I should purchase an additional SSD instead of the much cheaper HDD (for the purpose of gaming)?

Okay then another SSD would a great upgrade. The reason I was asking hardware is because if you had a low end computer for instance >750 ti and >fx 4350 or something along those lines you would see a much better jump in performance from another hardware upgrade. You have a 980 though which is one of the most highend gpu's out at the moment so an SSD upgrade would actually be really nice as the load times would be quicker.

I don't care about load times; if SSD affected FPS then that's a different story. FPS is dependent upon GPU and CPU.

Now you keep using the word upgrade. It seems to me that you keep overlooking that I do have an SSD (Crucial M4) and the question if SSD is so much better than my SSD that I should get an additional SSD.

I found an article on Anandtech from 2011 showing read and write for Crucia M4 and it was 56/165 (i just glanced at it), i assume that is what you have. Right now the best SSD you can get us 850 EVO PRO and i think it is 500/500 in read and write category.

So if i glanced right there will be an improvement, but i assume your PC has SATA3.

Your question isn't very detailed. If you want another SSD, just for the heck of it, get one. Your question was "Should I Get Another SSD?" I say sure. They still sell Crucial M4 so I'd disagree with you that it is old. The SSD I have is not under performing due to age.

Okay sorry, for the majority less wait time is great, thats sort of what you pay for I dont really know why you would consider an item that does that and that only if you don't care about it. If you render video's it would be smoother as well I believe.

I already have an SSD. I highly doubt there is a normal SSD that is dramatically faster than my current SSD. If the SSD provided instant loading times than I would agree with you, but beating a HDD or my existing SSD by 2.5 seconds or so isn't going to cut it. I don't mind luxury as long there is huge difference in performance.

I am glad that you agree with me, but, no, like Gracodana, other people may have different opinions. It is beneficial to view things from many different angles or perspectives and not to be dogmatic.

But yet again you didn't understand my question. I'll try one more time: Has SSD technology improved dramatically since I last purchased my SSD 3 years go? Is there is a huge improvement in performance that I should purchase an additional SSD instead of the cheaper HDD?

I find it odd that my original question is that difficult to understand. I'll quote my self and bold the key phrase:

Whether you have an i7 rig with a GTX 980, or an AMD 64 3000+ with an nVidia 6600GT, the questions you posed were irrelevant since you already knew the answer if a SSD would help game performance. Largely in part, it helps greatly in load times... but you don't care about load times. If you simply want to get a SSD to have a newer SSD, I say go for it. Do a bit of research before you do though, search your current SSD specs, then search a SSD like a Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB for specs, or something in comparison that you are interested in buying. It'll show speeds listed.
