Is SSHD Drives Worth the value?

I want to give a little boost to my pc, and I was thinking about the Hibryd drives, so my question, they really better than a normal HDD? My actual Drive is so slow and I will use my pc for IT Business soon, so I need to buy the drive today.

The drives that I want are

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-WD-1TB-SSHD-16GB-SSD-2-5-Solid-State-Hybrid-Hard-Drive-6-0Gb-s-Slim-SATA-/251615792975?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a95784f4f

or

www.ebay.com/itm/WD-Black-Dual-Drive-2-5-120-GB-SSD-1-TB-HDD-Kit-WD1001X06XDTL-/391088774853?pt=US_Solid_State_Drives&hash=item5b0eb51ec5

I dont know how exactly works, so no idea if 16gb is enough. I will use that pc for almost everything, Web design, programming, working with phones, some light video editing, etc.

PD: I search WD because I only had good experience with WD Drives, my actual drive a Hitachi, is very slow, and a Seagate died in only 1 year. And if there is no problem, can someone explain me how those drives works? I will see 2 drives? or how the system decide wich data will go to SSD?

Thanks in advance

And about SSD, how can I select the best one? I was about to sacrifice in my actual pc the 320gb drive because is the older one, but if is better 2 drives then i will sacrifice the 250 too. (My pc is small and i dont want to generate too much heat with 4 drive)

The performance will be better using 2 drives? I fear that I have about pure SSD is that they only have a limited write cycle or something like that not sure.

EDIT: Is a desktop PC.

Fail from too many write cycles is no longer a real issue with consumer grade SSD's.
It would take a determined effort, of hundreds og GB writes every day, for years. to kill and SSD.

Question: Do you want an SSD only? Then you will need a large drive 500GB or more.
SSD + HDD: a 120 or 250GB drive, plus one or more 1/2/3TB drives for other stuff.

I'm still not sure what will suit me better. I want a good performance because that will be my PC to work. (and maybe in the night some light gaming for relax).

So not sure if all the programs must be installed in the SSD so thats why I was thinking that a Hibryd that decide for me is better?. I have a lot of roms for Phones, a lot of image, video, programs, etc. so not sure what will be better for me, if only one SSD, a SDD+HDD, or SSHD.

Another factor is the price, I'm starting my business so i cant afford a 500gb SSD I think.

Performance, lowest to highest:

HDD
SSHD
SSD

An SSHD, with an 8 or 16GB SSD portion....it learns what files (not! applications) are used most, and those end up on the small SSD portion.
A regular 120 or 250GB SSD...everything on that runs at SSD speed.

What do you have currently, and what is your budget for drive space?

My main drive is a hitachi 1tb DiskHitachi_HUA722010CLA331_JP4O, is very slow, so I will use it as storage. I have a WD 320gb from 2008WD3200AAJS-22B4A0, is a little slow now because is old. And a 240 gb hitachi for storage Hitachi_HTS543225L9A300_FBEO.

So, I need more space for my files too. but I can get ride off the two small drives if necessary. I cant spent too much, right now I was thinking about 150 Dollars, can do it a little more maybe if really worth it. And another think, I can only buy from amazon or ebay because I'm from central america so my credit card cant be use on tigerdirect, newegg, etc.

Yes, but i want to add more storage because in my business I will need a lot of more storage. But i think that i can get a 1tb WD and get ride of those 2 small drives (I have space for 4 drives but that will make a lot of heat thats is why i just want 3). what di you recommend to pair that SSD, a green or blue WD drive? And the correct way to use a SSD is to install the OS and the most used application on that right? (how about swap file)?

Really thanks in advance

As a owner of a SSHD I think I can speak from experience and try to make this a bit simpler to understand.
Any GENERIC PC normally is sold with a basic HDD, but the platters only spin 5400RPM. Normally people buying a Gaming or more 'Business Class' PC gets the 7200RPM, in otherwords spins faster, reads / writes faster, faster moving of data. Then both 5400/7200 had competing models of 'CACHE', which was actually RAM chips embedded on the drive (which is electronic not mechanical like spinning platters) and the more CACHE one would have would alter also how much could be 'cached' in the RAM to 'be read' or 'be written' but this came to a maximum that could be done before there was no 'difference' anymore (one point some 5400s were FASTER then 7200 because they had huge cache on them as compared to the 'slower' 7200.

This is where things SPLIT in two directions: SSD and SSHD. SSHD camp had the idea, 5400RPMs is overstocked and not selling as well as 7200, plus is very cheap to make as compared to 7200. Second to that 5400RPMs generate much less heat then 7200, and weigh less (when we are talking ounces and portable units like laptops and tablets which 3X outsell desktops). So if they put this new SSD tech as a CACHE to the HHD, then it would be 'as fast' or measurably 'faster' (not really that much) than a more expensive, heavier, higher heat making 7200RPM. So that is all it is, and that is why they TRIED to sell it like that - as well as the key price difference at the time, you can get a SSHD 1TB for $129 as compared to a SSD 1TB was over $25000 when they were introduced.

SSD side pushed to make the prices drop, they generate NO HEAT, VERY VERY fast, and weigh nearly nothing in comparison to a HDD so they can even be used in iPhones and such (big target market). SSD though are HIGH cost PER Byte, so you get 1/10th the size but a heck alot of speed.

So the normal for people as noted was to get a simple 200GB or so SSD as the OS and basic apps. Then a 1TB ($49 at walmart 73200) for games, videos, etc. There is many setups (google adding SSD) that can walk you through but the biggest issue without it being CUSTOMIZED by a PC professional company, is you forever going forward CAN NOT ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT CLICK-CLICK-CLICK THROUGH setups. Because if you do, by default they will install to C (your SSD) and without even a blink of the eye the drive will be filled up (THANKS STEAM!!! - LOL!). So you need to slowly go through ANYTIME you INSTALL, UPDATE, CHANGE any program, game, etc. on your PC and make sure the 'path' is changed from C:\Program Files(x86)\Thisgame to D:\Program Files(x86)\Thisgame . Which is always a MANUAL process, there is no way to auto set it and not cause other C: based programs (like Windows itself) to get confused and corrupt / break from being confused.

Very true, ONLY if you (as I pointed to) slow down and just not CLICK CLICK CLICK through the prompts blindly, by default they would install as I said. The bolded part is what I was saying was the important part most people don't "slow down and think" they just are 'trained' to just 'click through it' blindly these days.

Yes. But in the Steam client, once you designate a particular location, that's all you need to do. No need to choose where after that.
You only have to do that once.

For all other applications and games, I fully agree.

Sorry to have to burst in, but I couldn't help but notice the title is grammatically incorrect. Shouldn't it be "Are SSHD Drives Worth the Value". (Don't take this seriously, I had to do it)

Yes, you are right, sorry, english is not my main language hehe. Just to add, I'm searching a good second drive, the black drives are really better than the blue? I'm thinking to invest more money to have a good performance. so how about these drives

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Western-Digital-Caviar-Black-1-TB-Internal-7200-RPM-3-5-/231509635445?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e70cb175

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Western-Digital-Black-series-WD1003FZEX-1TB-SATAIII-7200rpm-64MB-3-5-Hard-Drive-/381199908535?hash=item58c148feb7

wich one will be better to pair the SSD?

Originally i was thinking this blue drive http://www.ebay.com/itm/Western-Digital-Caviar-Blue-WD10EZEX-1-TB-7200RPM-3-5-SATA-Desktop-Hard-Drive-/371268307454?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item567150c9fe

But if the black drive is better (more durable, better performance) then I will invest more money in that,

And how about enterprise drive in a desktop pc?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Western-Digital-WD2003FYYS-RE4-Hard-Drive-2TB-7200RPM-3-5-Internal-SATA-/191400435782?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c905ae046

Are better? I saw one in a desktop pc but was weird because smart show up sometimes in RERR and the drive was new.

Guys, sorry for ask too much, but i want to have good drives in my pc (I dont open a new thread because i think that is not worth or yes?) I was about to buy a WD Black drive, but I read that Blue drives are performing equally or better than newer black drives? Is that true? How about the drives that I linked before?

The drive you linked from ebay at $79, is cheaper at Amazon for $75.
http://www.amazon.com/RE4-Enterprise-Hard-Drive-WD2003FYYS/dp/B002XW44QY

But you have to be careful of who and how you buy it. Not all of those drives are 'new'.

Yes, I know, in ebay I always be careful, usually a familiar double check the items in USA before send it to my country. But, that drive, is not a black drive, In wich category is? Is a good drive better than the blue and black that I linked? Its said enterpraise storage, but as i said before, I saw an enterpraise drive in a normal pc with some RERR warning (in some programs, in other not) Its very confusing for me

Ok, finally y decided for the blue http://www.ebay.com/itm/Western-Digital-Caviar-Blue-WD10EZEX-1-TB-7200RPM-3-5-SATA-Desktop-Hard-Drive-/231510791059?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e71e5393
(more cheap in ebay because in amazon they apply tax after purchase)

If the black drives and the blue drives are similar in performance, i think that is better the blue. And for RE4, I was thinking because is 2tb, but, I read and understood that has less trys to read a sector, so that is why maybe i saw some smart errors using those drives on normal pc.

so, i will buy the blue drive, but if someone tell me a good reason (apart of 1tb more of theRE4) i will buy that. thanks for you patience, really thank you
