I have a 2 year old quad core windows 7 machine with a 1T drive. The seller partitioned it into 4 partitons and allocated about 75G to C:\. . Since new, I probably installed another 50 programs.

The machine fails to boot up. I ran startup repair ... several times. Then, I tried bootrec.exe /fixmbr ... bootrec.exe /fixboot ... bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd. It was not successful ... corrupted volume. I ran diskchek/r and it found and repaired something. But, the machine still wouldnt boot and startup repair was useless.

So, If I do a clean windows 7 install on a spare 160G hard drive, is there a program/utility that will move all my programs over from the c: partition on the 1T drive to the 160 drive? All my user data can just stay as is on the d: e: and f: partitions.

Thanks in advance.

No. You have to re-install programs with a fresh Windows installation so the registry is correct.

You might as well just delete those partitions on the iTB drive, reformat it as one partition and just use it... unless it is defective. It may not be. The Win installation may just be corrupted.

Hello Clutch and thank you.

I believe the 1T drive is ok. I believe all my files are still there and what I have is a "glitch" in the windows 7 install. So, I can't format the 1T drive without losing everything.

My question was ... I was wondering if ... when I unplug all the drives and get a spare 320G WD plugged in and formatted and do a fresh win7 install ... that there was a MS (or other) utility program out there that would link all the other programs over to the new windows install.

Thanks again.
