Photoshop usage: AMD A8 or i5 at 40-50% premium

I am beginning photography and looking to buy a laptop for photoshop. I was looking at:

AMD Quad Core A8/ 8 GB RAM/ 2 GB ATI JET LE R5 M230 Graphics Card

I am getting 4th Gen i5s with similar specs at a 40% premium with a Geforce 820m 2 GB Graphics Card or at 50% premium with a Geforce 840m with 4gb graphics card.

Now I understand from what I have read on the forum so far that i5 will be the better performer by far. But is it worth a 40% premium for just Photoshop use (I am not going to do any gaming)?

Would the AMD be a workable option? I would prefer to invest more on lenses and photography equipment etc.

You should be fine as long as it's photos and Photoshop, not video and rendering.

An i5 won't perform better by far. You might be mixing up desktop i5 which is a quad core but laptop i5 are dual core. I don't know the speeds but they are likely to not be too far apart in terms of performance.

Yes, I think the i5 is a dual core with a QM87 chipset @ 1.7 Ghz - with turbo-boost to 2.7 Ghz.

The AMD is an A8-6410 @ 2.0 Ghz.

Does that change the answer?

Karsten75 has suggested the AMD should be fine for Photoshop. And that's the core usage i am looking for - no games for me

i5-4210U? Only i7 with q in the name are quad core. The a8 is pretty low speed though so it is like 40% slower. It shouldn't be an issue though. I've used photoshop with much lower specs back in the day. What kinds of stuff are you doing in ps?
