In my attemp to create a bootable USB drive to try to solve an issue with my wife computer, I noticed that the OS made the usb drive the G: drive and as such I no longer had a G: drive listed when looking for partitions, only the C: and USB as G: I thought strange and realize that G: drive on the hard drive contained software to restore the OS/system.

I powered off the system and in the morning it won't boot, always giving me black (like a DOS screen) with white letters: The message is "Remove disks or other media, hit any key to continue". Nothing I do gets me past the message. I ran diagnostics and everything passed. I don't have a system restore DVD/CD and maybe trying to boot from that would work, however searching for others with the exact problem, trying to boot from an optical (internal DVD/CD drive didn't work.

I'm convinced it's due to the loss partition (G). Any ideas of how to get this issue solved?

Thanks... Dio

Ok... sorry to do this but I did find a problem to this issue. Remembered I had a folder of CDs from Dell when I purchase the XPS new. Changed boot option to DVD/CD, loaded the "reinstallation" CD, selected fix problems and it fixed the corrupt boot file. System now back to normal.
