My computer failed a windows update a few days ago and ever since then it has been down hill. Blue screens after about 5min of run time. I did a recovery from a week ago but the computer cannot stay together long enuf for it to perform that. Sometimes the store computer just lags too before blue screen I don't know if this is exactly corruption or not but I'm stuck in the water. I have tryed error checking and that comes back clean I tryed Maintenace but the computer doesn't stay on long enuf for that. If specs help it windows 8.1 pro 64 bit
Amd phenom 2 x4 965
GeForce gtx 650 ti
8gb ram
Wester digital blue 1tb

Sorry for such poor punctuation and grammar I'm having to do this on my phone any help would be greatly appreciated

Download the data lifeguard diagnostics from WD's website: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?wdc_lang=en&fid=wdsfMobile_Blue

Run it on the drive and see if it is detecting any errors. If no errors are found, then there is a corruption in files or the registry that is causing the problem - more than likely an update or system file. You might be able to recover using a restore point, but if that doesn't work, you might have to reinstall the operating system.

I would definitely make sure that the hard drive has no errors first.
well if you can stay running long enugh to uninstall the last windows updates to see if something went wrong there as you pointed out and see where that takes you - get a bootable copy of Linux on a disk or pendrive and unhook the issue drive to see if it boots and runs on Linux with out issues to kinda eliminate board issues then its down to your hard drive just may of failed hardware wise -- if you have not been able to run its diagnostic tool [data life guard for WD- seatools for Seagate ] ??

That is why I suggested running the diagnostics - WD has several tests to determine if the drive is functioning properly. I go by a rule of thumb - when errors start on a drive, I never use that drive for operating systems or primary data drives. I have a pile of drives that I should throw out.....

'If' you have a junker machine laying around that still starts up, yank the drive and run the tests on it from that one. You can pick up a dock for around $20 that plugs into a USB port and tada! instant external drive that you can run the tests on. Laptop works just as well. First scan it for viruses. You just want to run a checkdisc to see if a mechanical failure caused this. Then copy what you need and I would do a fresh install. If the Master boot record is damages or corrupt you are going to have nothing but problems.

Something like this should do the trick.
