help me upgrade an old cpu

Hi guys thanks in advance for looking.

I have an old gaming rig and im looking to see if I can massively upgrade my cpu by buying a super cheap, used one on ebay.

I currently have an amd phenom hd9600.

My mobo is a gateway MCP61PM-GM version 2.0.

Im gonna build a new pc soon but I'd like to see if I can upgrade for the time being.

Download and run CPU-Z to verify what processor you have as there is no such thing as an AMD Phenom HD9600. If you are, if fact, running an AMD Phenom X4 9600, then it's unlikely that a significant processor upgrade is possible given the AM2 motherboard.
