This is incorrect. Looking at the system specifications it clearly lists the motherboard as Crossfire capable (only SLI requires both slots to be at least x8).

The second slot will not be as fast as the first. You'll get a marginal increase in performance.

Personally, I'd buy a new graphics card. In my opinion, if you're going to go SLI/Crossfire, you should do it right out of the box. If you don't, more often than not, by the time you do go SLI/Crossfire a better single card solution is available.

The 750watt PSU *should* be sufficient, but may be borderline based on how old it is.

you can happily run crossfire on a 16x 4x config - as stated above crossfire uses a bridge cable - 95% of the bandwidth is utilised via the 16x slot 1 - its a totally different system to sli - youll find that most amd boards apart from the newer 990 series are 16x 4x configuration.
you will lose 5-10% overall gpu performance absolute max (more like 5% in my experience)

currently running 2 x 280x cf on a 16x 4x board - in benchmarks/games that are fully crossfire utilised performance is pretty much double over a single card.

7970cf is substantially more powerful than a single gtx 970

my heaven benchmark with a 970 was around the 1300 mark
the 280x cf was near 1700

if your sysytem can cope with the power draw/card temps its a viable setup though.
