Might be a bit late but this might help. So do you want to play with people online or just people in the LAN? If so it should be as simple as making sure all the computers playing are plugged into the same LAN either viva Ethernet cable or wireless (Ethernet is recommended). This can be done through the router if it has enough ports then simply go to multiplayer and click LAN. Just make sure all the computers you've plugged in are connected viva the network settings.

The IP addresses you've posted will be on different subnets, so no, LAN multiplayer won't work. Both routers will need to be configured to communicate across the subnets.

Anyway, would the university allow their bandwidth to be hogged like that? Somehow, I think the IT department would have policies in place to prevent you from gaming across their LAN.

Don't mean to hijack, but it's still related. I understand that the (172.16.x.x) is a class B address (for obvious reasons since it's a uni) however isn't the (192.168.x.x) simply the default gateway for the router? Perhaps he worded it a bit funny, just want to clarify.

However as repair_man mentioned, you'd probably get in trouble if caught.
