I currently am running a single r9 270x along with my FX 8120 oc'd currently at 3.7 GHz. I had to get something quickly a while back to replace by sli GTX 670 setup. I liked the performance that I was getting with SLI and the FX oc'd. But I no longer have those cards, nor do I have the PSU that supported them.

To my main question. Im juggling 3 ideas. My first option as I seems that it would be the cheapest parts wise is to just pick up another r9 270x (XFX Dual Dissapation, i think it was it is).

Second option that I am looking into is going with 2 GTX 960s. I know in both this case and the first one that my current OCZ Modxstream 700w would not cut it for either, so if anyone recommends this course of action, a PSU recommendation would be nice as well

Third option would be a single GTX 970. I will be gaming at 1080p for now and home to have more than 1 monitor soon

Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

Max GPU/PCI Card Length = 270mm / 10.63 in

There you go.

Since the Asus STRIX is 280 mm, I do not recommend buying that card, unfortunately, because I think it is the best 970.

The MSI 970 is 269 mm and therefore will fit.

It is always recommended to get one strong card than 2 weaker ones, even if you get more performance than the gtx 970 with 2 way SLI of gtx 960s. 1080p gaming should not be a problem for a gtx 970, is suggest you get a good power supply of 750w (incase you want to upgrade to 2 way SLi of gtx 970s in the future), from Seasoni, Evga or XFX (would suggest a gold or more rated graphics card if you can afford it). Don not get the 1st option because although it is probably the cheapest you'll be more satisfied with the gtx 970 or 2 way SLI of gtx 960s. One more thing, what CPU do you have?

His CPU is FX 8120 overclocked to 3.7Ghz.

So defintely no on the r9 270x? I was checking PC parts picker andused my current build and it says that there is no problem with my current psu in this setup with another 270x. Is that true, or is PC parts picker just not right in that regard? Im checking all build options that I have proposed on the site at the moment to see if it would work, or if I need to replace something, etc

PSU ought not to be underestimated. I am not familiar with that particular PSU you have, however I would never compromise the quality.

The most respectable OEM's on the PSU market are Seasonic and Superflower (in my opinion). These OEM's sells under Seasonic, XFX, EVGA and Corsair, with more. Those companies are the ones you should be buying from.

You've treated yourself to a new GPU, treat yourself to a quality power-supply as well.

And yes I would still take the 970.

it appears that the only one of the 2 970s chosen that would fit is the MSI, as the ASUS is 11 in long

EDIT just saw your previous message about that
