Hi all- Got the AsusFX6300 stock and need a better graphics card, although impressed with the performance on this rig as stock. I was thinking about another AMD card, newer and money isn't going to stop me under 400 bucks.. that is, and also only interested in as much card as my system will support(i.e not looking to put a V12 Titan into a VW Beetle). Suggestions? Also, beneficial to take ram up to 16g when I do this? I'm at 8.0 now... Thanks for your answers!!

Bottlenecking doesn't have as big of a performance hit as you believe. If he was on a Pentium 3 system, sure - that would just be silly to suggest he go with something as powerful as a 970. However, the 6300 is a reasonably powerful CPU that can take advantage of a large portion of the 970's power.

The 750ti is a wonderful GPU that I have recommended to several people, but it's more of a budget card that doesn't perform nearly as well as even a 960, and for $400 he could do much better.

You really don't need 16 gigs of RAM - 8 gigs is more that enough for current builds. If your budget is $400 I'd go with a 970, or if you want to stick with AMD wait a few months since they might be announcing their 300 series cards.

The 6300 might not be as powerful as an i5 but it's still plenty for a 970, and even if it were to cause bottlenecking it would still outperform a 750ti. At the bare minimum I'd suggest going with a 960 or 280x.

the 6300 only holds a 970 back a little at stock - push it a bit & theres literally no bottleneck & nothing it wont hit 60fps at solid on ultra settings

minimum pairing Id make with a 6300 personally would be a gtx 960 or a r9 280 for high setting gaming.
any higher tier cards arent going to give a lot more fps but will allow you to ramp up graphics details more fairly substantially.

Thank you Everyone!
I guess the consensus is a late gen R9 or a GTX 900 series? Let me know if I don't understand.
Guy with the 750 Ti suggestion- is that an older (but less expensive card)? I haven't ruled anything out, so please- final opinion everyone? I'm going to Tiger Direct today, not waiting for the mail this time, LOL.
I am assuming no one was concerned with my 8 G ram needing to be updated... but if it takes any load off of my 6 core and my new vid card, maybe it's worth an extra 150 bucks to get to 16G?
Also, anyone every trying "unparking" their quad or six cores before? I saw a suggestion about that, tried it... no difference that I can see, in the game (haven't checked on my afterburner meters).

^ what motherboard are you running mate??
Once you go past the 280x as a marker a little overclock is a good idea if at all possible.
Look at the my 6300 sig & youll see its paired with a 970.
It performs admirably in any title at that clock speed & $20-$30 on a decent cooler will pay big dividends if your boards up to the job.

Also what PSU are you running?? The amd cards are power hungry ,the nvidia cards aren't.

BTW - 8gb ram is fine for gaming,& core parking doesn't affect the piledriver chips under win 7/8 at all.

750 ti newer the r9 series it is efficient the people talking about the r9 280x and 970 will bottleneck you a little bit unless you get a antarctica cooler and put your cpu in your fridge and clock it to 123981290381902380912ghz
